Knorr-Bremse, although not listed on the stock exchange, has been assessed by the external credit rating agencies Standard & Poor's and Moody's since 2000. The rating it receives is greatly significant to the company, above all because it creates confidence amongst customers and suppliers in the financial stability of the Knorr-Bremse Group – a fundamental factor in the success of any long-term business relationship. The company's rating can also have further positive impacts: for example, it can widen its access to capital market and bank financing, or aid its Systems for Rail Vehicles division in handling project contracts.

Both Agencies have approved Knorr-Bremse as an investment grade-company for 2015:

Moody's: A3/Outlook positive
Standard & Poor's: A-/Outlook positive
